Three handy wood working tools for your next project

May 22, 2016

This short note is designed for those of you who have aspersions to starting your first DIY project using mostly wood. Yes, there will be nuts and bolts involved. You may be making a small cupboard or set of shelves. You will probably also be using wood glue. This short note mainly introduces you to three handy wood working tools that you might want to consider using for your first project.

We were told about these four tools straight away. The first item on our suggested list was the circular saw. Then came the hand plane. And then we were introduced to the doweling jig. Then came drum sander(if you’re looking for advice read this post on drum sander reviews).  Along with these three handy tools it was suggested that our very first project could be the building of our first workbench. But the thought occurred to us that as we begin this project we don’t have a solid surface to work from anyway.

Oh well. Not to worry. An old table surface, a solid one mind you, will have to do for now. Speaking of which, we really want to build a table. And we are planning on putting together a set of shelves just for good measure. Where we are, there are lots of books that need storing. Also, the shelves are ideal as a decorative feature in the living room where we can place small ornaments, vases and picture frames on them.

The circular saw cuts faster than the popular jigsaw, but is no less difficult to operate. It also allows for much straighter cuts and is ideal for large sheets of plywood. Although we were told that this is alright if we already have a table saw in place. A hand plane will always be necessary to smooth out those strips before they get sanded down and painted or varnished.
